Spiritsong Tarot
Reading Level: Intermediate - Advance
Don’t underestimate decks with words on them. This deck constantly surprises me again and again. Some of you may argue with me on the fact that I have labeled this as intermediate and not for beginners. It is because it does not follow the traditional deck style. The deck may have similarities with rider-wave smith decks having 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana, however, it diverges significantly in its imagery, symbolism, and thematic focus.

I love using these for 1 card pulls. There is so much imagery, words and meaning on each card. The most striking difference is the deck's focus on animals as the primary symbols and guides. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, human figures and scenes dominate the cards, while the Spirit Song Tarot replaces many of these with animals. For example, the King of Wands is a man seated on a throne with a crown on his head and wands in his hand, but in the Spirit Song Tarot, he is represented by a lion, symbolizing strength and passion.
The symbols for the minor arcana (wands, cups, pentacles and swords) are replaced with more nature aspects such as feathers, crystals, acorns and shells. This truly created a deck more inline with nature and natural elements. Resonating with the nature within us.
Each card has two words that represent the overall theme for each card. This is why I believe you should be more familiar with the cards before diving in. It can be confusing to read the two words on the card and try to mesh it with the meaning of the card itself if you don’t have the foundations down just yet. But it is a bit helpful to have the words when you are adding to the meaning.
While the Spirit Song Tarot is not a traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck, it is deeply rooted in the tarot's foundational principles. Its unique animal-centric approach offers a fresh perspective and invites readers to explore their intuition and connection to the natural world. If you're looking for a deck that combines the wisdom of tarot with the magic of the animal kingdom, the Spirit Song Tarot is a beautiful choice.
